President Biden flew to Delaware on Tuesday to be with his son Hunter Biden in the wake of the prodigal son’s conviction on felony charges over a gun purchase.
The commander-in-chief nixed plans to stay in the White House after his second son’s politically charged conviction.
The duo were seen maintaining a stoic composure as Hunter greeted his dad on an airport tarmac.
The trial, focusing on whether Hunter lied on a gun-purchase form by claiming he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs at the time he acquired a weapon, took a highly personal format, featuring evidence that included photos of Hunter half-naked while holding crack pipes.
The president has been guarded while speaking about the prosecution against his son. When asked about the case during an interview last week with ABC, Biden offered brief responses, saying only “yes” to accepting the verdict and “yes,” that he had ruled out a pardon.
Following the conviction, Biden offered full-throated support of Hunter.
“Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today,” he said. “So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery.”
The comments marked a stark contrast with the stance of presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has railed against the justice system through his hush-money trial in Manhattan.
“I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal,” Biden stated. “Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that.”
The president was scheduled to fly Wednesday to the G7 summit in Italy’s Puglia region, where global leaders are set to discuss an array of challenges.
